Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan turns attention to World Cup after UAE heroics
Ghanaian superstar Asamoah Gyan's tremendous
striking form this season would have given a lot
of hope to his national side ahead of their World
Cup campaign in Brazil.

Gyan, who clinched the Arabian Gulf League
topscorer's title with 29 goals, capped his season
with a matchwinning strike against Al Ahli in the
President's Cup final on Sunday and ended the
title-drought for his side Al Ain.

“It is a great feeling and I wouldn't have
achieved the success without the support of my
team-mates. We didn't have a good season but we
kept our composure and proved that we can play at
high level,” said a jubilant Gyan after the
celebrating the victory with his team-mates.

“We made it to the AFC Champions League quarter
finals and now comes this. Our confidence level is
good now under new coach Dalic and different
tactics. It is working for us. I would say our
last 10-11 games have been really good,” said
the Ghana captain.

The friendly against the newly crowned Manchester
City and AFC Champions League last 16 encounter
against Al Jazira clearly seemed to have provided
the much-needed match practice ahead of this
grudge final against Al Ahli.

“Physically, we were better than them and yes,
we played a couple of games before this outing
while they had a break after the league,” said
Gyan, who also felt it was a 'good sign' for the
next season.

“We were a bit consistent in the last one month
and that was very much to our advantage. We
dominated very well today and that's what we saw.

Ghana has been placed in the 'Group of Death' in
the World Cup with Germany, Portugal and the
United States.

The Black Stars, making their third-straight
appearance at the World Cup finals, open the
campaign against the United States on June 16
before meeting Germany on June 21.

Their final group game will be against Portugal
who will be led by the Real Madrid star, Cristiano
Ronaldo, on June 26.

“Personally, I now have to think about my World
Cup. I will have to concentrate on it. We are
hoping for a good World Cup and it is not going to
be easy.

It is going to be the toughest World Cup. No
predictions for now; we have to go for the World
Cup and see what happens,” said Gyan before
signing off.
