On this day in 1995: Yeboah on target as Leeds sink Man Utd
24 December 1995 - Leeds United 3-1 Manchester
United

Gary McAllister scored the 100th domestic goal of
his career and Tony Yeboah was also on target as
Leeds earned a Christmas cracker of a Barclays
Premier League win over Manchester United.
McAllister reached his landmark with an early
penalty and his strike inspired his side to
victory.
Neither team approached the match in good form
with Leeds suffering a 6-2 defeat at Sheffield
Wednesday the weekend before and Manchester United
failing to win any of their previous four
fixtures.
Leeds made the ideal start by taking a
fifth-minute lead when McAllister notched up his
century of goals from the penalty spot after
handball by Nicky Butt.
The visitors drew level on the half hour mark as
Andy Cole pounced on a slip in the Leeds midfield
to race away and score.
Yeboah, who lit up the Barclays Premier League
with 24 goals in two seasons, including stunning
strikes against Liverpool and Wimbledon, restored
the hosts' lead before the break. He pounced on a
header from Tomas Brolin, surged into the penalty
area and lifted the ball over the onrushing Peter
Schmeichel.
Brolin was also involved in the decisive third
goal as his chip was headed in by Brian Deane.
"It's easier to look good against a team who come
here to try and win the match," Leeds manager
Howard Wilkinson said. "If we’ve got to learn
one thing it’s when a game is difficult to be
won, you have to be patient and make sure above
all else that you don’t lose it."
The visitors stayed second in the table but were
now 10 points behind leaders Newcastle United,
while Leeds remained in ninth.
Manchester United ended up overhauling Newcastle
with a strong finish to the campaign and took the
title, while Leeds finished 13th.
