Ayews, Muntari ruled out of Zambia clash
Olympique Marseille duo Andre and Jordan Ayew will
not be selected for Ghana’s 2014 World Cup
qualifier against Zambia in September.

The two brothers, who have not officially written
to the Ghana Football Association to revoke their
temporary retirement from the Black Stars, will
not be considered until such letters are sent to
the GFA.

GFA spokesperson Ibrahim Sannie Daara confirmed
this in an interview with Kumasi-based Boss FM
recently, noting that the Ayew brothers wrote to
the GFA about their international retirement,
copying Marseille.

He added: “We cannot call them back to play for
the Black Stars even though they have declared
publicly that they are available for national duty
once again.

“The Ayews wrote to us informing us about their
temporary withdrawal of services and they sent
Marseille a copy. So we don’t want to name
anybody in the squad for the club to turn on us
and say that those players are not available. They
have to write to us regarding their availability
for the team before we can select them.”

Footy-ghana.com understands that the Ayew brothers
believe that since they have announced their
return, they can be selected if head coach Kwasi
Appiah so wishes.

However, footy-ghana.com can confirm that Appiah
has not communicated with the duo since the
announcement of their return, sparking concerns
that both players are not part of his plans.

In a related development, footy-ghana.com also
understands that AC Milan midfielder Sulley
Muntari will also miss the Zambia game unless he
renders an official and unqualified apology to
Appiah for his reaction after being substituted in
Ghana’s 2-0 win over Lesotho in a recent World
Cup qualifier
