National women’s league rolls out on Dec. 16
The first ever National Women’s League will kick
off on Sunday, December 16 at the approved
centres.

The 12-club league, organized by the Women’s
League Board (WLB) of the Ghana Football
Association (GFA) is a giant step towards the
development of the women’s game.

At the official launch on Tuesday of the maiden
edition, which will run without any form of
sponsorship, Leanier Addy, Chairperson of the WLB,
said the participating teams have been group into
two zones, Northern and Southern; based on their
geographical representation.

The Southern Zone is constituted by Cape Coast
Ghatel Ladies, Soccer Intellectuals, Hasaacas
Ladies, Ayoola Ladies, Immigration Ladies and
Volta Amalga Ladies; whilst the Northern Zone has
Bolga Ghatel Ladies, Reformers, Lepo Ladies,
Ampim-Darkoa Ladies, Fabulous Ladies and Ashtown
Ladies.

According to the organizers, the top placed club
from each after league format will engage each
other in a one-off match to determine the National
Champion, and the bottom-placed clubs relegated to
the second-tier division.

Also, the club’s that finishes fifth in each
zone will engage each other in a playoff to
determiner the third club to be relegated from the
top tier. The relegated clubs will be replaced by
the top three from the Zonal Championships at the
end of the season.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, GFA President described the event
as an important milestone in the history of
women’s football and further confirms his
outfit’s commitment to the rise of the women’s
game.

The football governing body he said will bear the
officiating fees and organizational expenses,
whilst assuring the emergence of a sponsor for the
ensuing edition.
