Journalists respond to Minister's attack
We the members of the Eastern regional Private
Media Practitioners Association express our dismay
over an attack launched on journalists in the
region by the Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Dr.
Kwasi Akyem Appea-Kubi.

We find it extremely unfortunate that the
political leader of the region who is supposed to
work hand in hand with the media in the region to
promote the development of the region should use
such words like “rubbish” “stupid” and “
idiot”, on journalists who reported on an NDC
meeting at his residence.

We want to put on record that journalists in the
region have always been professional and fair to
all political parties and have been working
diligently towards the development of the region.

We want to say that we are not in the region to
destroy anybody’s work through our media house
but to do our professional work as trained
personnel.

We find the minister’s comments and utterances
as very uncomplimentary and insulting on our
professional ability.

We are therefore asking him to immediately
withdraw his comment and render an unqualified
apology to journalists in the region else we will
give him a ‘black-out’ in the region.

We also condemn the attack on a Peace FM reporter,
Michael Akrofi by the Eastern Regional Organizer
of the NDC, Mr. Bismark Tawiah Boateng. We call on
Mr Tawiah Boateng to apologise else we will advise
ourselves.

We also want to note that we will discharge our
services in the region without fear or favour.

We are accordingly advising politicians in the
region not to take us for granted.

We want the security services in the region to
offer the necessary protection to media
practitioners in the region because of the
purported attack on the Peace Fm reporter by the
NDC regional organiser.
