AMA investigates severing of trader’s ear The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has begun
investigations into an incident in which a
trader’s ear was almost severed during a scuffle
with city guards.
Ebenezer Obeng was arrested by the guards for
selling shoes on pavements, a claim he has denied.
He is accusing the city guards of burning his
shoes and stamping his face with their boots until
his ear virtually came off.
Public Relations Officer for the AMA Nuumo Blafo
III said although the guards have denied the
allegations, the assembly will go ahead with its
investigations.
He explained the victim was being led to the
AMA’s office at Holy Garden near the Kwame
Nkrumah Circle but he turned violent upon reaching
the gates.
“They were almost in the yard and then, I think,
he started struggling with our personnel so in the
process of struggling, his head hit the gate so it
is rather the gate that caused the injury,” he
explained.
Nuumo Blafo III said the guards will, however, be
sanctioned if they are found culpable.
