Murdered boy’s father deplores police’s slow pace The father of a seven-year-old boy who was
murdered allegedly for ritual purposes is
threatening to take the law into his own hands.
Mallam Hamza Gariba said the police have done very
little to bring the killers to justice, months
after his son’s dismembered body was discovered
in the bushes near the Winneba Zongo.
Two men are being held in police custody as part
of the investigations but Mallam Gariba told Joy
News he has been forced to petition the Inspector
General of Police because he suspects the police
are not doing a good job.
He said a vehicle used by the suspects for the
heinous crime has been turned into a commercial
vehicle immediately the police released it.
He said the police also failed to keep some
weapons like the cutlass used for the crime as
evidence.
Mallam Gariba said these among other alleged flaws
on the part of the police in winneba made him more
suspicious that something was not going on well.
He commended the IGP for giving him audience and
noted: “I don’t need compensation from them,
what I only need is justice… Policemen in
Winneba were doing very well but because of money
they are doing bad things”.
When contacted, the Winneba District Police
Commander, DSP Matthew Asamoah gave the assurance
that the police are treating the case seriously
and urged Mallam Gariba to exercise patience.
“We have sent materials to labotory, when we get
the result then we will forward the case document
to the Attorney General for advice. The delaying
is not the fault of the police.”
