Minister flays journalists; calls some idiots
The Eastern Region Minister has launched a
scathing attack on some journalists accusing them
of fabricating stories with the intent to create
division in the country.
Dr Kwasi Appiah Kubi was incensed about reports
that suggested that the Castle was behind a recent
meeting held by regional executives of the party
to declare support for President John Mills ahead
of his campaign bid to be retained as flag-bearer
of the governing NDC.
“The fact that you have a camera and a piece of
paper and pen doesn’t make you a superior
person. You are not and don’t think you know it
all because you don’t know it. All that you set
out to do is when you wake up in the morning,[you]
go out there and cut people down.”
“…What you are doing now I am telling you, you
are creating unnecessary chaos in the
country…because of the idiocy of just a tiny
minority of you. And I am telling you I will not
take it. You can record it and play it as many
times as you like. I mean every word that I am
using today,” he snapped.
He was speaking to journalists after a brief tour
of the region to inspect development projects.
Joy News’ Benjamin Tetteh said the minister
showed no sign of anger during the tour with
journalists but in a dramatic swing in mood he
lunged at a section of the media for divisive
reportage.
He singled out the Daily Guide and the New
Crusading Guide Newspapers for criticism, arguing
rather passionately, that the declaration by the
Eastern Region branch of the NDC supporting
President John Mills was not as a result of
coercion from the Castle but the brain child of
the regional and constituency executives of the
party, Benjamin Tetteh reported.
According to him, a reporter from Peace FM, an
Accra-based FM station was sacked from the press
corps that toured the region.
The minister’s verbal attacks came after threats
from supporters of the NDC to beat up some
journalists they accuse of false reportage.
The journalists were said to have been angered by
the incidents and threatened to boycott the
day’s activities but rescinded their decision
upon intervention by the Akuapim North DCE.
