GNA workers asked to call off strike The management of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) has
appealed to its striking workers to call off their
ongoing sit-down strike in the interest of the
organization.
The striking workers want their General Manager,
Nana Appau Dua to proceed on leave for failing to
manage the agency properly and accusing him of
incompetence.
The workers began a sit-down strike on Monday
April 18, to protest Mr Apau Dua’s continous
stay in office despite being asked to proceed on
leave by the board of the Agency.
They workers claim Nana Apau Dua has mismanaged
the Agency and cares less about workers' poor
conditions of service.
During a meeting with the leaders of the workers
on Tuesday April 19, the management of the Ghana
News Agency asked the workers to re-consider their
decision and call off their strike promising to
address the concerns of the workers immediately.
However, the secretary of the communication
workers union at GNA, Felix Attuquaye Quaye told
Citi News in an interview that the workers will
meet on Wednesday morning to consider
management’s request.
“Management met the leadership of the union and
appealed to us to rescind our decision on the
sit-down strike while the NMC finds an amicable
solution to the problem. The workers will meet in
Wednesday morning but we have some conditions so
if those conditions are met then I am sure there
would be an amicable solution to the problem”.
