African University sacks 8 students for exam leakage EIGHT FINAL year students of the African
University College of Communications (AUCC) have
been expelled from the school for engaging in
examination fraud.
The students were part of a syndicate of second
and third-year students who allegedly bought the
examination questions from some of the school
administrators.
As a result of this, the second and third-year
students were asked by the school authorities to
re-write the exams whilst the others were
punished. In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, E.
Ofori Akyea, Executive Vice President of the
school, said the authorities heard that some
students were buying examination questions from
the school administrators.
According to him, this was the first time the
school had been involved in such a practice and in
other not to jeopardize the school’s hard-won
reputation, an investigative committee was
instituted to scrutinize the case and bring the
culprits involved to book.
Mr. Akyea noted that it took the committee 21 days
to investigate the case, stressing that it was
later revealed that most of the students bought
the examination questions from the school
administrators.
He indicated that the committee’s findings
brought out a number of students who were involved
in the leakage.
The Executive Vice President of the school further
noted that the committee then handed over their
evidence to the school’s Academic Board for it
to decide on the appropriate punishment for the
culprits in order to serve as a deterrent to the
rest of the students.
Mr. Akyea, who doubles as Director of African
Centre for Development Communication, warned the
students that the school would not condone any of
such practices in the future.
He noted that Journalism, Africa Studies and
English were among the papers that were leaked.
