George Darko performing at Citi FM's MOGO

Pat Thomas & friends to rock @ George Darko’s album launch
A mix up of old and fairly-young highlife
musicians including Pat Thomas, AB Crenstle, Bessa
Simmons, Kwabena Kwabena, Kwame Zaggy, Efya, and
new sensation SOGO, will on the April 29, perform
alongside King of Burger Highlife George Darko,
when he celebrates his 60th birthday and also
launch his “Luck Star” album.

The Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra will be the centre
of attraction as the over dozen artistes show up
in solidarity with one of their very own.

The album launch, which falls on the date George
will be celebrating his 60th birthday, according
to his handlers Mirror Image Promotions, is
expected to live up to the pre-event hype.

The King of Burger highlife will perform some of
his favourite old songs as well as a selection of
tracks off the “Lucky Star” album, which is
currently receiving heavy rotations on urban
radio. Mirror Image Promotions, are optimistic
that his album launch will pass the test and also
prove why he is undoubtedly one of the finest
musicians Ghana has ever produced.

George’s Manager Kaicy Boakye Yiadom said:
“the 29th of April will present us with yet
another opportunity to treat the highlife loving
community to good highlife songs. George is well
prepared for this show and he has promised to
deliver to the satisfaction of all”.

Born 1951 in Akropong, in the Eastern Region,
George Darko is credited for introducing the
Burger-highlife in the 1980s with his first hit
"Ako ti brofo".

He was educated at the Presbyterian School at
Akropong. After playing for an army band in the
Middle East, Darko returned to Ghana and formed
the Golden Stool Band. In the late 1970s the band
moved to Germany, where he went solo and formed
the Bus Stop band in 1982.

He returned to Akropong in 1988, where he was made
Tufuhene of Akropong-Akuapim in 1991 with the
stool name, Nana Yaw Ampem Darko and has since
been, combining his musical career with
chieftaincy.

The JAZZ KINGS Band will back George Darko on
stage.
