Confusion rocks NPP Gambaga/Nalerigu constituency There appears to be serious confusion in the camp
of the New Patriotic Party in the Gambaga/Nalerigu
constituency of the East Mamprusi District over
the disqualification of Meisunah Sualihu, one of
three candidates contesting the Parliamentary
primary slated for April 30, 2011.
Angry NPP supporters including some delegates are
threatening to boycott the upcoming Parliamentary
primary if the decision to disqualify Meisunah
Sualihu, their preferred candidate is not
reversed.
They also vowed to vandalize NPP property in the
constituency in protest against any attempt to
conduct the Parliamentary primary without allowing
Meisunah Sualihu to contest.
Expressing their displeasure to Citi News, Fuseini
Nurideen, spokesperson of the protestors, accused
both the NPP regional and national executives of
trying to twist the Gambaga/Nalerigu primary in
favour of their preferred candidate, one Mohammed
Sampah. The former MP for the area, Hajia Alima
Mahama has specifically been accused of helping to
mastermind the move.
He expressed the delegates and party supporters’
disappointment in the party leadership’s attempt
to impose a Parliamentary candidate on them.
Fuseini Nurideen challenged the NPP leadership to
deepen democracy in the party by allowing all the
three potential aspirants to flex their muscles at
the upcoming primary.
He disclosed their intention to hold a news
conference which would be followed by a street
protest as a means of telling the whole world
their full story.
Attempts to reach Dr. Clifford Braimah, the NPP
northern regional Secretary proved futile.
