NDC Flagbearer aspirants to pay GH¢ 20,000 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has
officially opened presidential campaigning and
announced guidelines for the July 8-10 Congress to
elect a flagbearer for the 2012 Presidential and
Parliamentary elections.
Nominations will be opened from May 3-10 for
prospective candidates to pick up their forms for
Gh¢20,000 each. Female aspirants will enjoy a 50%
rebate, paying Gh¢10,000.
Aspirants have up to 5:00pm on June 1 2011, to
submit their forms or risk disqualification.
These were announced by the General Secretary of
the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, at a news
conference on Monday April 18.
Answering questions on recent developments in the
party which some fear could mar the congress, Mr.
Nketia was optimistic that the party will rise
above the seeming difficulties and hold a
successful congress.
Commenting on President Mills’ endorsements by
NDC executives in five regions, Mr. Asiedu Nketia
indicated that those executives have not broken
any rules since no rules had been set at the time
they made their declarations. According to him,
now that guidelines have been set for the
congress, people will be held accountable for
their actions.
The NDC General Secretary dismissed suggestions
that the party could split following the decision
of a former national executive, Nana Konadu
Agyemang Rawlings, to contest the sitting
President. He said the NDC was only respecting the
party’s democratic principles and must rather be
commended for taking such a bold decision.
He was confident that any loser (s) at the
Congress will rally support for the winner in the
larger interest of the party.
