Fanti women declare support for Nana Konadu The Fanti Women Caucus of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC) has declared support for the Former
First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings for the
Flagbearership of the party.
They have thus called on President Atta Mills to
step aside in order to save the party.
They made it clear that Nana Konadu is the only
hope for the party and they support her due to her
remarkable achievement.
The Press Conference was held on Saturday, April
11 2011 at Biriwa in the Mfantseman West
Constituency of the Central Regional.
The Paramount chief of Biriwa, Nana Akyin Attanya
V who was present at the conference advised the
members to stay focused and rally around Nana
Konadu to help build a prosperous nation.
He also said Nana Konadu has an excellent track
record so there is a need to support her to make a
history. He said they are proud of Nana Konadu
because she is courageous and a dynamic woman.
"I am sure of her competency and I believe it is
because Nana Konadu was born in the Central Region
and Cape Coast to be precise".
THE FULL STATEMENT:
We the Fanti women caucus of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) consider as
disappointing, dangerous and unacceptable the
current development in our party under the
leadership of President Mills, and as a result
call for his immediate resignation as the leader
of our great party and not seek re-election at
congress.
Our call is premised on the fact that, President
Mills is making the NDC unpopular and there is
increasing public frustration with the government.
Nothing seems to be working for his administration
and our performance in government have been
abysmal.
There is a huge leadership vacuum in both party
and government and President Mills is certainly
not in charge. He has created a situation where we
are neither moving forward nor backwards.
Our support base is dwindling and our people are
just disaffected and embittered and feels rejected
in their own party. There is the need for an NDC
administration to succeed another NDC
administration but current developments within the
party do not favour such an aspiration and we are
not the least enthused about President Mills and
his style of leadership. There is disenchantment
among many Ghanaians and we must not allow the
opposition NPP to take advantage of this situation
and send us back into opposition.
The NPP’s overwhelming endorsement of Nana Akufo
Addo in their recent national delegate conference
should send a message across that; the battle for
2012 has begun in earnest.
We therefore call on President Mills to take a cue
from the former Australian Prime minister Kevin
Rudd who, when he was losing his way had to step
down for Julia Gillard (a strong woman) to take
over as Labour party leader as well as the Prime
Minister. The NDC finds itself in a similar
situation and for that matter we call on President
Mills as a matter of urgency step aside for the
NDC to re-organise and give hope to the teeming
masses and the Ghanaians in general.
We need a leadership that would breathe
sensitivity into the party. We need a courageous
leader who is prepared to discard the vindictive
suggestions of his policy advisors and would be
prepared to hold the party together by steering
clear from divisive politics.
The cost of President Mills holding on to power in
spite of his lack of dynamic leadership is too
heavy to ignore. The NDC has done a lot for
President Mills and the only thing he can do for
the party at this crucial moment is to step down
to allow good sense to prevail.
Now that our promised “BETTER GHANA” is
looking increasingly like a “BROKEN GHANA” and
the nation eager for a new leadership, we cannot
afford to disappoint Ghanaians. The NDC must offer
alternative rather than the NPP.
Today we see our founder, Ex President Jerry John
Rawlings' advice for the party and President Mills
to listen to the people and investigate corruption
in the past administration fall on deaf ears. What
we see is the constant glorification of Nkrumah
and the pursuing of Pro CPP ideals, Nkrumah here,
Nkrumah there, Nkrumah everywhere. How on earth
can a card bearing member of CPP control the
government and the party’s chest? If you trust
your family members you do not use a
’’stranger’’ as your trustee. What is
Dr.Kwabena Duffour doing at the Finance Ministry?
Even Former President Kuffour who shouted and
preached all-inclusive government did not give
such a sensitive position to a
’’stranger’’. The founder is being treated
as a slave in his own party, a party he has given
his life for. This is the highest and ultimate
betrayal.
We call on all those to believe in Ex-President
Rawlings and respect the ideals of June 4th and
31st December to stand firm and rally around
Rawlings and his ideals. We appeal to our
delegates and our party officials not to allow
offers of positions, money, promises of contracts
to bribe their conscience. We appeal to all NDC
members in the diaspora to join hands with our
cadres back home to take back the party from these
strangers and their stooges. Nana Konadu
Agyeman-Rawlings is the most qualified person to
rescue our party from collapsing and losing its
grassroots values at this crucial time.
The time to rebuild and get NDC ready for victory
in 2012 with Nana Konadu as leader is now.
Long Live Nana ‘Ayebida’ Konadu
Agyeman-Rawlings
