President Mills inspects $16 million hospital project at Bekwai
President John Evans Attah Mills has expressed
satisfaction with the quality of job done by
contractors working on the $16 million district
hospital project at Asante-Bekwai.

The 120-bed facility would have an emergency and
accident units, mobile ambulance, surgical,
X'-ray, obstetrics and gynaecology departments, a
well furnished pharmacy section and mortuary.

The ECOWAS Bank for International Development,
African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government
of Ghana are funding it.

President Mills, who is on the last leg of his
three-day working tour of the Ashanti Region,
encouraged the Italian contractors, Consar, to
work hard to complete the project on schedule.

The project, started in year 2009, is expected to
be ready by May 2012.

President Mills said he was happy that after 24
years of waiting the vision of building the
hospital had become a reality.

The "Better Ghana Agenda" is all about bringing
progress to every Ghanaian in all corners of the
country, the President said, and pleaded with the
people to be patient for it to put in place the
necessary measures and interventions to make this
happen.

President Mills underlined the need for all to
accept to pool efforts to improve the country's
socio-economic conditions.

Nana Karikari Apau II, the Omanhene of Bekwai,
said the people in the area were grateful for the
project.

He also lauded the government for continuing with
the construction of the
Bomfa-Junction-Asiwa-Bekwai road, started by the
previous administration.

Mr Joe Gidisu, Roads Minister, repeated the
government's resolve to complete all road projects
it inherited and undertake new ones to boost
economic activities of the people.

President Mills later inaugurated an
electrification project at Nhyiaeso, near Obuasi
