Jesus Onetouch is serving a ten-year prison term for incest

Jesus Onetouch living normal life after contemplating suicide
Prophet Nana Kofi Yirenkyi, popularly known as
Jesus Onetouch, is in good health and living a
normal life after he intended to commit suicide in
prison, Mr Courage Akyem, spokesperson for the
Ghana Prisons Service has said.

The prophet is reported to have told journalists
who visited the Nsawam Medium Security Prison -
where he is serving a ten-year sentence for incest
- that he wanted to starve himself to death during
the first week of his stay in the prison.

He decided to do so because he dreaded life in
prison, according to the Ghanaian Times newspaper,
but changed his mind after the prison authorities
“engaged me in a series of counseling”.

In an interview with Peace FM, the spokesperson
for the Prisons Service said people have different
ways of dealing with situations and in his case,
Jesus Onetouch thought of suicide as the best
option left for him when he first stepped into
prison.

But the ‘man of God’ was saved when he
accepted the counselling he received at the
diagnosis center of the prison. The centre is
tasked with studying and interacting with newly
admitted prisoners before they are classified into
their various cells.

Mr Akyem added that authorities of the prison are
very much aware that prisoners may contemplate
suicide and have therefore ensured that
instruments that can be used to facilitate such an
idea are not available in the prisons.

That is why he [Jesus Onetouch] said he would have
starved himself to death, he emphasised.

“ …so here, what he would have done would have
been to reduce eating whatever food that was given
to him and continue starving [himself] until his
death.”

“…he is in good health, …he is happy and
going about his normal daily life in the
prison,” Mr Akyem added.
