AMA fails to elect PM for the second time The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Wednesday
failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) for the
second time as none of the two contestants got the
required two thirds votes of 93 to be declared
winner.
Out of the 129 membership of the assembly, 128
members cast their votes to give the incumbent
Presiding Member, Mr Desmond Addo-Biney, 68 votes
and the other contestant Mr Daniel Ashiaku
Akushey, a retired banker, 52 votes.
At their previous sitting on April 9, this year,
the AMA failed to elect a PM when Mr Addo-Biney,
pulled 76 votes as against 52 votes by Mr.
Akushey.
Mr Addo-Biney said he was not perturbed but
expressed hope that he would be elected during the
third time of voting.
His main challenger, Mr Akushey, said he was sure
of victory to lead the assembly to achieve its
