Ghana Airport Company to evaluate electrical system at KIA Mrs Doreen Owusu Fianko, Managing Director of the
Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), on Monday
said the Company would soon undertake an exercise
to examine the electrical system at the Kotoka
International Airport (KIA).
She said the electrical system that was installed
when the Airport was built in 1960 had since not
been changed although the airport’s operations
had expanded, putting more pressure on the
system.
There was, therefore, the need for an evaluation
and, if necessary, its replacement, Mrs Fianko
said at a press briefing at GACL on Tuesday.
She also stated that work was ongoing to re-roof
and expand the main terminal and the tarmac at the
airport to allow more aircraft to park.
The taxiways would also be rehabilitated and this
might require that the airport be closed at
certain hours for the work to be done.
The proposed hours, she said, would be between
0000hours and 0600 hours but the GACL was still
negotiating with the airlines on the issue.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of
Transport, who was visiting GACL, said he would
communicate the purpose of his visit and its
outcome to the public later if the need arose.
“There are some things we can put out to the
public and there are some things we can’t” he
said.
