Airtel Ghana appoints new head for corporate affairs
Airtel Ghana has appointed Mr. Donald Gwira as the
new Head of Corporate Communications and External
Affairs.

He takes over from Carmen Bruce-Annan, who crossed
over to competitor Vodafone months ago.

A statement from Airtel Ghana said Mr. Gwira would
lead the engagement with the media and other
stakeholders of the company.

It said Mr. Gwira joins Airtel with a wealth of
corporate experience from Guinness Ghana Breweries
Ltd., where he managed the Corporate
Communications function.

“He was instrumental in engaging the media and
that led to a Ghanaian business journalist winning
a category of the Diageo Africa Business Reporting
Awards (DABRA) for the first time in its
history,” the statement said.

The statement said in the last six months, Mr.
Gwira doubled as Corporate Citizenship Manager for
Guinness, driving the company’s flagship
corporate social responsibility programme, Water
for Life, which will be providing clean water to
100,000 Ghanaians.

Prior to Guinness, Mr. Gwira held various
positions including Communications Manager for
West Africa at Sightsavers International, where he
led the public relations campaign across West
Africa.

In 2004, he was recognized as one of 36 exemplary
leaders in a book entitled “Leading Coherently:
Reflections from Leaders Around the World.

Mr. Gwira is a member of the Executive Council of
the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana and holds
a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs
from American University in Paris, France and a
Masters degree in Political Science, majoring in
International Relations from Howard University in
the United States of America.
