There are too many incompetent people in Ghana – Aning A security analyst at the Kofi Annan International
Peace Keeping Centre is angry over what he said is
a seeming glorification of incompetence and
mediocrity in the country.
Kwasi Aning is incensed over the worsening
situation in Cote d’Ivoire and the dire security
implications for Ghana.
“In this country we like to talk a lot and we do
very little… This is a country where we don’t
want to sack people. …There are too many
incompetent people in this country and what is
happening will not change until we sack people and
punish people who are paid for by government to
deliver the goods,” he told Joy News’ Dzifa
Bampoh on Friday.
He was reacting to reports of influx of armed
persons fleeing the fighting in neighboring Ivory
Coast.
More than 50 of such persons were last week
arrested by the Brong Ahafo police and
repatriated.
Joy News has learnt that another man armed with a
pistol and ammunition was also arrested by the
Western Region Police on Thursday but has been
sent back home. There are fears more have crossed
over unnoticed.
Dr Aning said the situation is alarming but not
surprising.
He maintained that any security personnel
expressing surprise at the reports of influx of
armed combatants from Ivory Coast must have been
sleeping on the job.
It is even worse when they know about it and yet
have not taken adequate security measures to
protect the borders of the country and the
citizens of Ghana, he noted.
He said it was evident given what has transpired
in similar conflicts around the world that Ghana
will be used by the combatants to recuperate,
rearm soldiers or rebels of the feuding factions.
“If you are a well trained intelligence and
security officer, they ought to have seen what was
coming. They failed in Yendi; they have failed in
Bawku; they continue to fail in Accra and
Agbogbloshie and they have failed in La Cote
d’Ivoire and they will fail as we move towards
election 2012. Incompetence has become a merit in
this country…,” he snapped.
He warned if President John Mills and his advisors
do not take the necessary measures the refugee
camps in Ghana will be turned into recruitment and
training centres as well as arms depots by the
warring factions.
So those who are paid for by government to protect
us must get the job done,” he said. Source - JoyOnline
