Executive Director, CDD, Professor Gyimah Boadi CDD slams NPP, NDC for over politicization of Ya-Naa murder trial The Centre for Democratic Development, (CDD) has
condemned the ruling National Democratic Congress
and the New Patriotic Party for the over
politicization of the ruling of the Ya-Naa murder
trial.
In a statement on Thursday, the centre called on
both parties to desist from making political
capital of the Dagban crisis. It said the Centre
was appalled by reactions after the ruling which
sought to destroy public faith in the Judiciary.
Mr PNK Aborampah, Programmes Director at CDD in an
interview with Citi News charged the NPP and the
NDC to call on their members to be more
circumspect in matters relating to the Dagbon
crisis and various institutions of state.
“When a case is at court and a case as serious
as a case that borders on the state to have an
antidote to it, we expect the leadership of the
country both the opposition and the ruling to see
the case as a challenge to rule of law and not as
a win for a particular party or as a loss to a
particular party”.
“So for certain NPP fraternity to have jubilated
over the issue, it means they have been vindicated
and for a section of the NDC to have gone to
challenge and even call on the President to
reverse the decision, this is dangerous”.
However, the NPP National Chairman, Jake Obestebi
Lamptey has described CDD’s call as hypocritical
and a non reflection of the issues on the ground.
“These are some of the hypocrisy that doesn’t
do as any good. If you have people that have been
brought to court on a murder charge and it has
been found that they have no case to answer and
they and their family jubilate and pour powder it
has nothing to do with NPP or NDC”.
“That is a normal human reaction. NPP have
issued two statements on the reactions to this
judgments and I know that in both we were asking
the judiciary to be kept out of this. NPP did not
organize a bunch of people going round with
placards damning the judges; we said keep the
judges out of this”.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief of Staff at the
Presidency, Alex Segbefia, said the Dagban crisis
is a bad example for the CDD to use in calling for
non political positions.
According to him, the only way to solve the Dagbon
crisis is by accepting that it has political
undertones which cannot be ruled out.
“It is very difficult to try and de-politicize a
case of this nature because the very history and
the parties involved make it political from day
one. This is something that we have to accept and
live with it. And therefore it is a bad example
for the CDD to try and separate political
sentiments from it”.
“The Abudus have always voted predominantly for
the NPP, Andanis have always voted for the NDC.
The Andanis would even tell you that we voted for
you because of the Ya-Naa scenario. It is a bad
example for looking at it from a non-political
position. Let accept that it has political
connotations so we can begin to solve the
problem” he noted.
