Family of evangelist shot by police cries for justice The family of a 34-year old man who was allegedly
shot by night patrol policemen in Kumasi is
accusing the administration of unprofessional
conduct.
The plain-clothed officer allegedly shot Akwasi
Marfo when he failed to stop at the signal of the
police whilst returning from dawn evangelism on
his motor bike.
His family accuses the police of treating him like
an armed robber.
The suspect has since been admitted at the Komfo
Anokye Teaching Hospital, and is under police
guard.
A brother of the victim, Duncan Boateng, told Joy
News that it was wrong for police officers on
night patrol to wear plain clothes and use a
private vehicle for their operations.
Under those circumstances, he argued, how was his
brother going to know they were police officers
and not armed robbers.
But the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations
Officer told Joy News Marfo is suspected to be
among a group that attacked a shop in Kumasi.
Chief Inspector Ibrahim Tanko said the police will
investigate the case.
He said depending on the situation, plain-clothed
police officers were allowed to conduct patrols
with private vehicles.
