Tomato prices shot up by 9% Prices of tomatoes have increased on the Ghanaian
market. It is now being sold at an average price
of GHC8.80 per “medium size tomato tin.”
Figures released by Esoko Ghana showed that the
price of maize however reduced by two percent in
the third week of July and is going for GHC5.60
per “olonka.”
According to Esoko Ghana, Groundnut, Millet and
Soyabean also dropped by a percentage each.
They closed the week at GHC13.30, GHC5.50 and
GHC6.00 per “olonka” respectively. Yam (pona)
gained 5 percent in price to close the week at
GHC7.60 per “medium size tuber.” Cassava
(fresh tubers) followed with 4 percent gain to
close the week at GHC6.90 per “3-4 tubers.”
Cowpea also gained by a percentage point to close
the week at GHc 9.10 per “olonka.” On the
various markets, the price for an “olonka” of
maize dropped by 20 percent in Dambai to close the
week at GHC4.00 and gained by 2 percent in Kumasi
to close the week at GHC6.30.
In the other markets, the price remained the
same. A “medium size tomato tin” full of fresh
tomatoes lost 38 percent in Accra to close the
week at GHC 5.70 with Takoradi also dropping 11
percent to close at GHC 20.00 and also with Kumasi
losing 3 percent to close the week at GHC 10.30.
In the other markets, the price remained the
same.
