Nine sustain injuries in accident on Graphic Road
Nine persons sustained varying degrees of injury
when a 207 Benz bus, with registration number GW
5057 X, was involved in an accident on the Graphic
Road, near the Graphic Communications Group
Limited (GCGL) head office in Accra, yesterday.

The bus, which had on board 23 persons,
somersaulted as a result of a damage to its long
shaft which came out of its outlet and hit the
road.

Even though there were no fatalities, some of the
passengers, including the driver and his mate,
sustained some injuries.

The bus, which was heading towards
Ablekuma-Nsakena from the CMB Market in Accra, was
heavily damaged.

The incident attracted a large crowd to the scene
after people heard the bang that followed the
accident.

The accident temporarily led to a heavy vehicular
traffic on the Graphic Road.

An eyewitness, Mr Edward Ampadu, told the Daily
Graphic that the bus was moving at a normal speed
when the long shaft came out of its outlet.

“I saw the shaft remove and all of a sudden, the
vehicle rolled over and over again,” he said.

A passenger on board the bus, Ms Diana Wuda, said
the bus was in motion when they suddenly heard
sounds of a breakage beneath it.

“All of a sudden the driver could not control
the steering wheel and the bus started behaving
strangely. We all started shouting frantically and
some even started to cry. The bus finally
somersaulted and I sustained cuts at the back of
my hands,’’ she added.

Corporal Daniel Adawu of the Ministries Divisional
Police Headquarters told the Daily Graphic that
the injured passengers had been conveyed to the
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The police also arranged for a towing car to
remove the bus from the middle of the road.
