Kintampo tragedy: Never again – First Lady
The First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has said no
amount of words can assuage the pain of the
bereaved family in the Kintampo Waterfalls
fatalities over the weekend.

According to her, “the news of the tragedy at
Kintampo has stunned the whole country”, adding
the whole of Ghana shares in the pain of the
families who have lost 19 lives.

Some students who had gone to the Kintampo
Waterfalls on Sunday on an excursion met their
untimely deaths as others sustained severe
injuries when hilltop trees fell on them following
torrential rains.

“I pray that God will comfort and strengthen you
during this difficult time.

These were all beautiful young souls and we will
always remember them as such.

“I also pray for a speedy recovery for all the
injured and pray they return home to their loved
ones soon.

“I pray that no other family would have to go
through this ever again. May the Almighty God
watch over you all,” Mrs. Akufo-Addo said in an
open letter to the bereaved family.

Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is currently
in Kintampo with the Tourism Minister Catherine
Afeku assessing the situation.

He described the incident as a “tragic loss”
to Ghana.

“We have lost 18 young men and women at the
prime of their lives who were in school trying to
make a difference to their lives; we have lost
them under very tragic circumstances. We will
allow the necessary investigations to go on as we
see what we can do for the affected families,”
he said.
