Bribery scandal: Joe Ghartey ‘gags’ Ayariga, blocks him from media interviews
The ad hoc committee charged to investigate
alleged parliamentary bribery scandal chaired by
the Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan
constituency Joe Ghartey has given a media black
out to the MP for Bawku central constituency
Mahama Ayariga not to give commentary about the
public sitting on main / social media.

The chairman prevented him from granting media
interviews with issues regarding his testimony on
the committee today.

Mr Ghartey indicated that he can do so after the
report of the committee is brought out.

‘Honourable Ayariga I just wanted to tell you
that we will be grateful if you don’t discuss
what you said here or give commentary on either
radio, television interviews or on social media,
we are not gaging you but we believe that we must
all help to bring the work of the committee to a
successful end, when we bring out our report of
course you can comment, do you have any objections
to that,’ the chairman asked.

Mr Ayariga has been leading the crusade that the
chairman of Appointments Committee of Parliament
Joe Osei-Owusu bribed some members of the
committee prior to the approval of Energy minister
Boakye Agyarko.

Asked if he has any evidence to the allegations
levelled against Mr Osei-Owusu when he appeared
before the committee, he responded ‘I maintain
that it was all about a rumour’.

He indicated that he never dealt directly with
neither Mr Agyarko nor Mr Joe-Owusu but rather the
minority chief whip who is MP for Asawase
constituency Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka gave them the
money.
