My song is not political — Piesie Esther
It is five years now since gospel recording act,
Piesie Esther, brought out new stuff but the
latest one she released to the market a fortnight
ago, Agye Won Nsem, is getting massive airplay,
making her feel like she had not been away at
all.
The song title, which literally translates as
something slipping away from one’s hands or a
situation one cannot fully grasp is, however,
being given a political twist by some music fans.


The singer insists her song has nothing to do with
contemporary Ghanaian politics.

“I’m not a politician. I only know how to sing
to praise God so Agye Won Nsem is just something
to signify how shocked or stupefied enemies have
become at my rate of progress. It has nothing to
do with who is winning or losing power at the
upcoming elections,” Piesie said.

Now with the Trust Productions recording label and
management team, Piesie first came to national
attention with her debut Apae Ama Me album in
2002.

She followed up with the Me Nte Ase collection in
2008 which earned her nominations in the Gospel
Artiste of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year
categories at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards.

She released Ziba Bekwo in 2011 and was not heard
of again till this month when her new Agye Won
Nsem seven-track album recorded by Dan Bassey,
Shar, Dave Joy and Bimpong hit the market.

“I’m happy with the reception so far. I’m
sure it would peak well before the year ends,”
Piesie said.

She has shows lined up into the new year and is
asking her fans to listen critically to her lyrics
which all uphold the power of God and ignore
those making wrong assumptions about her music.
