Two arrested for raping woman after robbing her in Bolga

The Upper East Regional Police Command has
arrested two suspects for allegedly raping a woman
after robbing her in her apartment around the
Estates in the Bolgatanga municipality.

The suspects have been identified as Danteni
Bugre, 30, and Baba Salli, 42.

The police have also mounted a search for an
accomplice, Nabila Mohammed, who is currently at
large.

Meanwhile, the police have been able to retrieve
items such as mobile phones, cameras and decoders
from the suspects.

Briefing

Briefing the media on the incident in Bolgatanga
yesterday, the Upper East Regional Police
Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr
Simon Afeku, explained that the robbers took
advantage of a downpour around 5 a.m. on September
20, 2016 to attack the 40-year-old victim in her
room.

He said the robbers used sharp objects, including
knives, to break into the victim's apartment and
made away with GHc1,000, a G-Touch tablet and two
mobile phones.

Mr Afeku said one of the suspects took advantage
of the situation to rape the victim before bolting
with their booty.

The woman had been traumatised by the incident,
according to the police.

Arrest

He said on September 22, 2016, the police, with
the help of the youth in the neighbourhood,
apprehended Bugre at a drinking spot within the
Estates area.

Upon interrogation, Bugre admitted committing the
crime but claimed that Mohammed, who was on the
run, had raped the woman.

Even though Bugre led the police to Mohammed’s
abode, he could not be found.

Bugre further took the police to the house of the
other suspect, whom he described as their anchor
man who usually received and kept the stolen items
after their robbery operations.

Mr Afeku entreated the public to always volunteer
information to help in arresting perpetrators of
crime in the municipality, some of whom used the
area as a hideout after committing crimes in other
parts of the country.
