Mr. John Kudalor, IGP.

I will ban social media if…….IGP
According to him, some section of the public
abusively use social media to create fear and
panic by sharing false information to their
counterparts which in return stir up controversy
among the people.

Mr. Kudalor who was addressing police personnel
and some section of the media at the Eastern
Regional headquarters as part of his two days tour
affirmed that this year’s election would be
keenly contested hence the need for the police to
proactively plan for the task ahead.

The visit was aimed at ascertaining the region’s
preparedness towards enhancing a peaceful election
and also to inspect the equipment and facilities
available in the region.

He noted that to ensure the passage of true and
accurate information to the general public, the
police Information Communication and Technology
Department would be strengthened effectively, in
addition to educating the public about the
consequences of passing on false information to
others.

The IGP indicated that for peace to be achieved
before, during and after the election, police
personnel must put proactive measures in place to
curtail any occurrence of violence.

Mr. Kudalor also cautioned police personnel to
abstain from partisan politics, indicating that
anyone found throwing his/her support to a
political party would be severely penalised
according to the rules and regulations of the
service.

The IGP urged the Eastern Regional Police Command,
to put proactive measures in place by engaging all
political parties, youth groups and the media to
prevent the occurrences of violence.

He also assured the regional police command of
adequate logistics and equipment they would need
to provide security for all and also promised a
60-seater and 30-seater vehicle to the region by
the end of September.

He also encouraged them to be professional in the
discharge of their duties.

For his part, the Eastern Regional Police
Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP)
Peterkin Yentumu Gyinae, promised the region’s
commitment to ensure peace at the end of the
election
