The suspects, Christopher Afreh and Abdulai Gariba

Masterminds of Ecobank manager’s murder arrested
Two persons suspected to be the masterminds of the
murder of the Operations Manager of the
Cantonments branch of Ecobank Ghana, Seth Kweku
Akyea, during a robbery attack at his residence at
Kasoa in 2015 have been arrested.

They are Christopher Afreh, 30, alias Indomie or
Shadow, and Abdulai Gariba, 33, alias Rebel
Leader.

A third suspect, identified as Wisdom Adokpo,
alias Moro, 19, is said to be serving a three-year
prison sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security
Prisons following his arrest and prosecution in
another robbery case.

One other accomplice, identified only as Kojo
Joe, alias Hitler, is currently on the run.

The incident

Briefing journalists at Kasoa, near Accra,
yesterday, the Kasoa Divisional Police Commander,
Chief Superintendent Mr. Samuel Kwaku Alordey,
said the police had been trailing the suspects
after the robbery and murder of Akyea last year.

The 40-year-old manager was shot dead by three
unidentified assailants in his Kasoa residence
about 9:30 p.m. on August 20, 2015, when he
arrived from work.

Preliminary investigations by the Kasoa
Divisional Police Command established that
Akyea’s vehicle was taken by the suspects but
later abandoned.

The vehicle has since been retrieved.

It was also established that the suspected
robbers requested for the car keys from the
manager and asked a lady in the car to go into the
house.

Later, the police found out that the suspected
robbers marched Akyea to the passenger side and
had a conversation with him before they shot him.

Revelations

Through intelligence, Mr. Alordey said, Afreh was
arrested at his hideout at Kasoa on June 23, 2016,
after which Gariba was also arrested in the same
area.

According to him, the police established during
the interrogation of the suspects that Gariba was
the one who shot the victim.

He assured the public of efforts by the police to
arrest the suspect on the run.
