9-year-old drowns in Akora river
Master Yaw Amfo, a nine year- old Primary One
pupil at the Agona Swedru Catholic ‘A’ Primary
School, has drowned in the Akora River.

Master Amfo , affectionately called ’Nana
Yaw’, went out with three other play mates to
swim in the River but he could not be traced again
a few minutes after he dived into the river, the
Agona Swedru District Police Command, told the
media at Swedru .

The Police said the family of Master Amfo
informed the Agona Swedruman Asafo Company about
the missing of the pupil after two days.

The District Police Command said the Asafo
Company, consequently, formed a search party and
went to the river side to perform rituals as
tradition demanded.

The District Police Command said shortly after
the rituals, the search party dived into in the
river and within a twinkle of an eye, the body of
former Amfo was retrieved.

The Search Party, led by the Agona Swedru
Asafohemaa , Nana Ama Adomah, handed over the body
to the Swedru District Police Station.

The body has since been deposited at the morgue
of the Agona Swedru Municipal Government Hospital
for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Nana Adomah has cautioned parents and
guardians in Agona Swedru to advise their children
and wards to desist from swimming in the Akora
River because now it had overflowed its banks
after three days of torrential rains.

She said the Swedruman Council of Chiefs and
Asafo Company had directed the heads of families
in the various communities of Swedru to educate
their members about the dangers the Akora River
posed during raining season.

Nana Adomah also asked the teachers in Agona
Swedru and its neighbouring towns in the
Municipality to warn pupils and students not swim
in the Akora River.
