No Worker Should Be Allowed To Go On Strike For More Than 72Hrs - Employment Minister
Labour Relations Minister Haruna Iddrisu
registered his displeasure with public workers'
resort to go on strike as a means of cowing
government whenever disagreement ensues between
the two entities.

He has thus given indication of his resolve to
present a motion before Parliament to review the
laws regulating strike actions in the country.

“As much as we respect the right to strike as a
constitutional legitimate right, there must be
limitation to it to save lives. And that I will
stand by it strongly and I will facilitate it,”
he assured on PeaceFM.

He also condemned the behaviour of some public
workers who hop onto media platform to address
their concerns.

“I think that in Ghana [you know it], a lot of
people use the medium of the media to abuse, to
misinform, to denigrate; it’s not nice. Rights
must have responsibilities. Your right to speak
ends at my right not to listen," urging the
doctors to resolve the conflict amicably with the
government.

Hon Iddrisu however called on the striking medical
doctors to resume work.

Speaking in an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi
on "Kokrokoo", Hon. Haruna Iddrisu urged the
striking doctors to sit at the negotiation table
with the government and reach a consensus over
their demands for conditions of service.

According to him, the government has provided some
incentives to better up the doctors' conditions of
service and so, he expected the doctors to have
exercised restraint before embarking on strike.

“I plead with them to come and sit down with us.
They should resume work. And if the work goes on,
it is not that we won’t agree with them…"
