Afoko: I'm not plotting against Akufo-Addo
The office of the National Chairman of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Paul Afoko has
challenged NPP members who have been alleging that
he was working against the fortunes of the
party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo
to desist from spreading falsehood.

In a statement, Mr Afoko’s office denied
embarking on any such moves to prevent Nana Addo
from winning the 2016 election and asked the
proponents of those allegations to provide proof
or forever refrain from such unfounded claims.

He also appealed to the National Council of Elders
of the party to step in and call such persons
whose “divisive claims” were affecting the
unity and image of the party to order.

In the statement which was signed by Nana Yaw
Osei, a spokesperson for Mr Afoko, the NPP
chairman noted that such accusations had reached
some members of the party who have been calling Mr
Afoko for clarification, because they did not
believe that he (Mr Afoko) would ever drive a
spoke into the wheels of the party’s move to
form the next government in 2016.

It stated that what was worth noting and very
worrying was that any time such unfortunate
allegations were made against the national
chairman and repeated and discussed in the media;
the negative image suffered by the party has been
immeasurable to say the least.

It mentioned specifically Mr George Ayisi-Boateng,
a leading member of the party, the Member of
Parliament for Abuakwa South, Mr Atta Akyea, a
lawyer for Nana Addo, Mr Philip Addison who have
all publicly made such “tenuous claims”.

It noted that some worried members of the party
have also explained that such wicked and
unfortunate impressions were being perpetrated by
other NPP persons believed to be profiting from
so-called misunderstandings and perceived
divisions at the top echelons of the party.

“Though the party members say they do not
believe Mr. Afoko is doing any such thing as
working against the flagbearer, they are
nonetheless worried that such deliberate
falsehood, if not curbed, would not promote unity
and cohesion in the party for a strong campaign
towards the 2016 general elections,” the
statement added.

It is therefore worrying that such wrong
impressions have sadly been repeated in the media
by persons who should know the effects of such
deliberate falsehood on the fortunes of the party
in the general elections ahead.
