Gunmen attack Afoko ‘supporters’
Gunmen have opened fire on a group of New
Patriotic Party supporters holding a meeting at a
location known as ‘Popular Office' in the
Northern Regional capital, Tamale.

The incident happened last night, but the
situation was immediately brought under control by
the police.

Leader of the group Alhassan Mohammed Awal says
the two armed men on motorbikes rode into the dark
place near the meeting venue and begun firing
shots at them.

He said they were targeted because they are
perceived to be in the camp of embattled NPP
national chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary
Kwabena Agyepong.

“We don’t believe it is our opponent, we
believe it is within our party. We have received
threat messages from some people who think we are
against Akufo-Addo,” Awal told Joy
News.

He vehemently rejected the claims that they are
anti Akufo-Addo, and condemned the perception that
persons who are close to Afoko and Agyepong are
opposed to Akufo-Addo’s presidential ambition.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the police in
the Northern Region, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who
confirmed the incident to Joy News said the police
will treat the incident as purely criminal.

No casualties were recorded; investigation is
underway, he said.

Meanwhile, 2016 flagbearer of the New Patriotic
Party Nana Akufo Addo has rejected allegations he
has a hand in attempts to oust Paul Afoko and
Kwabena Agyepong.

Yesterday, in an unprecedented move three NPP
regional branches issued votes of no confidence
against the two national executives whom they
accused of having a hand in the murder of Upper
East regional chairman of the NPP.

But Nana Akufo-Addo insists the move was not
sanctioned by him.
