NPP issues guidelines for parliamentary primaries
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued
guidelines for its upcoming parliamentary
primaries.

A statement signed by the party's General
Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, last
Tuesday, called on party communicators, national,
regional and constituency officers to desist from
openly declaring support for their candidates.

Aspirants were also cautioned to desist from using
"intemperate language and attacking each other in
the national media".

The party reminded all party executives, officers
and communicators that the guidelines governing
the conduct of the upcoming parliamentary
primaries were in force and must be complied
with.

The guidelines included national, regional and
constituency officers of the party refraining from
openly declaring support or campaigning for any
individual aspirant.

Similarly, all party communicators shall desist
from openly campaigning or declaring support for
any parliamentary aspirant through the various
media outlets.

Parliamentary hopefuls were also notified that
they only officially became aspirants after they
had been cleared through vetting.

Moreover, it shall be the obligation of all
aspirants to protect and promote the good name of
the party during their campaigns.

“Please be advised that the upcoming primaries
are localised internal elections. Therefore
aspirants are cautioned to refrain from the use of
intemperate language and personal attacks on each
other in the national media,” the statement
added.

It, therefore, called on all aspirants, officers
and communicators of the party to conduct
themselves above reproach and adhere to all stated
rules and regulations governing the elections.

The statement concluded that any conduct which has
the effect of maligning others or bringing the
party’s name into disrepute shall amount to
misconduct and shall attract sanctions.

The NPP has set June 13, 2015 for its
parliamentary primaries and already a good number
of people have announced their intentions to
contest the party elections.
