I’m Not An Angel – George Andah
Nenyi George Andah, a marketing guru and leading
member of pressure group, Occupy Ghana, has stated
that although he is not an angel and has his own
shortcomings, his work for Occupy Ghana is not
related to his political ambitions or beliefs.

Mr Andah’s announcement Monday that he would
contest the Awutu Senya West parliamentary
primaries on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party
(NPP) has generated debate as to the motives of
Occupy Ghana which prides itself as a non-partisan
group.

The announcement revived concerns among a section
of the public, especially some members of the
National Democratic Congress (NDC), including the
party’s National Organiser, Kofi Adams, that
Occupy Ghana was a political offshoot of the NPP.

Mr Adams has alleged that Occupy Ghana is
“covering up for what they are not.”

“They claim to be Ghanaians who are not partisan
but it is very clear that a pack of them are
working to get Nana Addo elected,” he said.

But in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM
Monday, Mr Andah rejected the assertion.

“Occupy Ghana is not George Andah. Occupy Ghana
is bigger than George Andah.

“I don’t see how whatever George Andah does
could be seen as negative for the image of Occupy
Ghana,” he said.

Mr Andah, who had stints as marketing chief with
telecoms giants MTN, Glo and Airtel, described
claims that Occupy Ghana was an appendage of the
NPP as mischievous, adding that they were
calculated to distract the public from what he
said were the good works of the group.
“There is nothing that makes Occupy Ghana an NPP
group,” he emphasised.

He said he decided to contest for MP because he
wanted to serve Ghana, adding, “I’ve been
sympathetic towards the NPP, but I have a lot of
very good friends in the NDC.”

Mr Andah said: “If it is the will of the people,
I’m ready to serve my country. I’m looking to
serve my constituency.

“There are certain values and principles that
every true occupier lives by. And there is no way
that living by those values makes you any less a
Ghanaian.
“It makes you a better Ghanaian. It makes you a
new Ghanaian and I guess that we need that crop of
leaders testing the political waters and putting
themselves up to serve the country.”

Meanwhile, Mr Andah has written to the leadership
of Occupy Ghana, asking to step back from the core
leadership of the group.

“Some of us have had to come out and take a
stand for God and Country, realising that sitting
on the fence is no longer an option. I know we are
no angels, but I can say that I will do what I
have to do for God and Country,” he wrote.

If Mr Andah wins the NPP primary, he would be
contesting the NDC’s Hannah Tetteh for the Awutu
Senyah West seat in 2016, should she get to
represent the NDC again.

Madam Hannah Tetteh, who is also the Foreign
Affairs Minister, won the seat in 2000 and served
for one term as MP.

She did not contest her seat in the next election,
but returned to Parliament in 2013 after winning
the seat in 2012.
