It’s ‘Stupid’ To Ask NPP For Alternatives To End ‘Dumsor’ – Ken Agyapong
New Patriotic Party (NPP) firebrand, and Member of
Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong has
described as “stupid,” the ruling
government’s demands on the NPP to provide
alternatives to end the current energy crisis.

He claimed that anytime the NPP makes suggestions
to government, their views are not taken, hence
there was no need to provide anymore
alternatives.

“Those people criticizing us are stupid. NDC
people will not even listen to you. I have said
this several times on television and radio that if
they want alternative power, even sugar cane can
generate power,” he fumed.

His comment follows an earlier challenged thrown
to the NPP by the National Organizer of the
National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams
that the NPP should provide alternatives instead
of criticizing government over the energy crisis
that has bedeviled the nation.

Kofi Adams said, being in opposition does not mean
just oppose anything without providing
alternatives adding that “What is their
alternatives? What is their track record of the
NPP when it comes to power generation? When we had
the crisis in 2007, we were given all kinds of
dates to end the crisis including a date that
doesn’t even exists. That 31st September we were
going to end this crisis, this date does not
exist.”

Outraged by the comment, Kennedy Agyepong in an
interview with citifmonline.com during the
party’s ‘Wɔn Gbo’ demonstration in
Accra argued that that NPP after establishing the
Bui dam cited other rivers in about 13 districts
nationwide that could be developed to provide
power for the country.

“We told them that you can even use wind energy
to give us power, we have also told them about
solar. What are they doing?…Anything coming from
NPP, you will not accept it and you will come and
say that give alternatives.” “… They have no
clue and they can’t solve the problem, they
should give us a break,” he added. ‘

The ‘Wɔn Gbo’ demonstration, led by the
NPP’s flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, is to show
their displeasure over the worsening power crisis
and economic challenges in the country.
