Health alert: 'Dumsor' spoiling stored blood nationwide
Danger is looming at health facilities across the
country as the National Blood Service has asked
its agencies across the country to reduce their
blood stock.

This is as a result of the erratic power supply
the country is reeling under.

Ghana is currently shedding between 500 to 600
megawatts of power, a situation, which is
affecting operations of health posts, businesses
and industries all over the country.

According to the Blood Service, the current stock
of blood is going bad as a result of
unavailability of generators to some health
facilities across the country to supply regular
power during power outage periods.,

The Blood Service which seems helpless, is
appealing to the public for generators to help
health facilities save the situation.

The PRO of the blood Service, Steven Addai-Baah in
an interview with Starr News said they are forced
to spend Ghc4000 to keep the National Blood Bank
active anytime power goes off.

“Averagely we spend not less than 4000 cedis to
power these generators anytime the light goes
off…and that is quite a lot of money and if the
power situation was a stable condition we
wouldn’t have to spend this money”.
