Kumasi hotel rates up 50% due to NDC congress
Some hotels in Kumasi in the Ashanti region have
increased their rates by about 50% in response to
the high demand for accommodation due to the
upcoming National Delegates Congress of the NDC on
Saturday. “The normal rate is 80 Ghana cedis but
to be honest because of the congress, it has been
increased …to 120 Ghana cedis,” Douglas
Asiedu, the front desk manager of Golden Gate

The hotel which is located in the heart of Kumasi,
on the main Kumasi – Accra highway adjacent the
Kumasi children’s park has 38 rooms. According
to Asiedu “Business has been very good and we
have been fully booked since yesterday (December
18) … most of them would be checking out on
Sunday December 21 .” Some 3600 delegates of the
National Democratic Congress (NDC) are expected in
Kumasi to elect their national executives on
December 20, 2014.

At the Stadium Hotel, a two star hotel that has
been operating since July 1978, located behind the
Baba Yara Sports Stadium at Asokwa – a suburb of
Kumasi, all the rooms had been booked since
December 16. The manager of hotel Ebenezer Kwabena
Adu Ofosu, said the last few days had been very
“stressful.” He said the hotel has 23 rooms
and the rates that ranged between 70 and 130 cedis
had been maintain despite the move by some other
hotels to cash in by increasing their rates due to
the congress. Ceeta Kel hotel is located in Asokwa
in Kumasi and according to the manager , Emmanuel
Amoako they are elated about the revenues because
