Top businessman aided ‘cocaine woman’ – Hannah Tetteh
Nayele Ametefe, the woman arrested in possession
of cocaine at the Heathrow airport in London, was
aided by a Ghanaian businessman to go through the
Kotoka International Airport without any problems.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional
Integration, Madam Hannah Tetteh, revealed this on
an Accra-based Radio Gold. The Minister said the
suspect had been in contact with an unnamed
businessman prior to her departure to the UK.

The man, is alleged to have called an assistant
Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Regional Integration, Abiel Ashitey Armah, who has
since been arrested, and requested that Ms
Ametefeh received preferential treatment at the
VIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport.
According to Madam Tetteh, the suspect got onto
the plane with only her hand bag and was only
handed the bag of cocaine after she was on board.
The suspect is reported to be cooperating with the
Ghanaian consular officers in the UK but has
refused to provide them with the name of her
accomplice in Ghana. Madam Tetteh also reiterated
in the interview that Miss Ametefeh did not travel
with a diplomatic passport.

“Since I became Foreign Affairs Minister, I have
not authorized the issuance of a diplomatic
passport to Nayele Ametefeh, alias Ruby Adu Gyamfi
or whatever name she may be using,” she said.

“I am the only person who can authorize a
diplomatic passport. If any of my staff issue a
Diplomatic passport from the passport office
without my prior authorization, that essentially
means that they have attempted to commit an
unlawful act,” She added. Following the
woman’s arrest, President John Mahama has
dissolved the governing board of the Narcotics
Control Board (NACOB). This was after government
refuted NACOB’s claim that it had been involved
in the bust.
