There Are No Factions In NPP - Kufuor's Aide
The Office of former President John Kufuor has
dismissed claims of the existence of two main
factions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP); the
Nana Akufo-Addo and Kufuor factions.

Since the NPP delegates elected new executives
last Saturday, there have been speculations in the
media that the new crop of NPP national officers
are from the camp of ex-President Kufuor.

The General Secretary of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia earlier told
Citi News 'when you look at the new crop of
leaders, it is clear that it almost represents a
coup d'état from President Kufuor's faction. He
has taken over the party again.'

An aide to the ex-President, Frank Agyekum in
response said: 'I didn't expect Johnson Nketia to
say anything conflicting about the NPP. There is
nothing like a Kufuor coup or a Kufuor faction,
coming into office. Everybody there is an NPP
member, so it is unfortunate for anybody to say
that there is a Kufuor faction or so. It is a
pigment of their imagination.'

Mr. Asiedu Nketia also stated that the old NPP
executives have been punished by the delegates for
contributing to the party's loss in the 2012
elections.

In a rebuttal, Mr. Agyekum clarified that the
delegates only elected the national executives
based on their competence.

'What is important is that the delegates who met
decided to choose who they think can lead the
party at a certain point in time. The delegates
who met in conference in Tamale, believe that
these are the people, who can lead them into
victory in 2016,' he said.
