Work with your predecessors – Kufuor tells new NPP executives
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is asking the
newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives
to work in concert with their predecessors, and
open their doors to all members of the party to
make them feel welcome.

A statement signed by the spokesperson to the
ex-President, Frank Agyekum, urged the new
executives to further strengthen unity within the
party and work hard for victory in 2016.

Mr Paul Afoko, was elected as the National
Chairman. He polled 2,031 votes to beat Mr Stephen
Ntim, his closest rival who polled 1,503 votes, Mr
Fred Oware polled 1,135 votes, while the former
chairman, Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey got only 66
votes in the keenly contested election.

Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong also defeated the
incumbent General Secretary of the party, Mr
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, to become the new General
Secretary. He polled 2,529 votes, while Mr Afriyie
got 1,990 votes.

The other contestants for the slot, Mr Yaw Buaben
Asamoah and Captain Nkrabea Effah Darteh, polled
181 and 46 votes respectively.

Other elected executives are Mr Freddie Blay,
First National Vice-Chairperson.

Mr Sammy Crabbe, Second National Vice-Chairperson
and Mr Frederick Antoh, Third National
Vice-Chairperson.

The rest are Mr John Boadu, National Organizer, Mr
Sammy Awuku, National Youth Organizer, Madam Otiko
Djaba who retained her position as National
Women’s Organizer, Mr Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah,
Treasurer, and Mr Kamal Deen Abdulai, National
Nassara Co-ordinator.

He urged the new executives to quickly put aside
the euphoria of their triumph, and adopt measures
that will ensure victory in the next elections.

The Former President congratulated the party for
the successful run of the elections, which has
been acclaimed as ‘free and fair,’ adding:
“it has enhanced the party’s democratic
credentials.”

“Former President Kufuor who for the past two
weeks has been on speaking engagements in Europe
and the United States, returns home Monday evening
after meetings at the UN, World Bank, the European
Union Headquarters and University of Oxford,”
the statement concluded.
