FA Cup silverware awaits Edubiase and AshantiGold
The 2011-12 MTN FA Cup final will see two teams
that made quite an impact in the Premier League
campaign this season renew their rivalry.

New Edubiase and AshantiGold will both look to end
their seasons on highs with the FA Cup final
representing an opportunity for silverware that
both clubs can fall back on to rate their
performances.

Silverware after Sunday's match at the Accra
Sports Stadium will make up for both team's
inability to win the league title.

However, reaching the finals presents a rare
opportunity for either side to claim the sole spot
for next season’s Caf Confederations Cup and set
up a Super Cup date with Asante Kotoko.

For New Edubiase, the chance to make their
first-ever finale in the competition's history is
enough motivation to drive them into battle.

Even without striker Emmanuel Baffour, who
finished as the league's top-scorer, coach of
Edubiase Anthony Commey is hopeful of winning the
Adansi derby.

“The time has come for as to do something that
has never been done in the history of Ghana
football,” Commey said ahead of the match.

“We will win the trophy to ensure our
qualification for the CAF Confederation cup next
season.”

But for AshantiGold, who have not won the Cup
since their only triumph in 1993, victory could
herald the start of another era of domination in
Ghana football just like two decades ago.

The Miners are chasing a second title which could
etch coach Yaw Acheampong's name into the records
of the Cup competition as a player and a coach to
win the title, each time with AshantiGold.

Acheampong captained them to their first FA Cup
success and wants to guide them to victory on
Sunday as coach.

“I quite remember the last time we had this Cup
in Obuasi, I was then the captain so it will be
very nice to return this Cup to Obuasi as a
coach,” Acheampong said.

The winner of the finals takes home a cash prize
of GH¢25,000.
