Andre Ayew feeling the Ghanaian love everywhere

Ayew: Ghanaians accepted me after U-20 World Cup
Andre Ayew started feeling the love and warmth of
Ghanaians only after his impressive performance in
the 2009 World Youth Championships in Egypt.

The 22-year-old had received a lot of flak when he
featured for Ghana senior team a year before in
the Nations Cup on home soil.

The then Lorient loanee however kit a harmonious
chord with Ghanaians when he led the Black
Satelites to an historic World Cup feat – the
first ever won by an African team.

It was only then according to the Marseille
midfield enforcer that the Ghanaian public began
warming up to him and the love now has grown even
bigger.

“I was heavily criticized by Ghanaians in 2008
but after the U-20 World Cup everyone began to see
me differently,” he said.

“Everywhere I went I could feel the love from
the people and that marked the end of the
difficult period.

“2010 was then the confirmation of that love
through my performance in South Africa and it has
lasted since.”

The 2011 BBC African Player of the Year will get
the chance to win even more admirers when he
represents Ghana at next year’s Africa Cup of
Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
