Encroachment of Owabi Forest cause of flooding at Atafoa- Assemblyman
The Assembly Man for Abrepo-Mpatasie Electoral
Area Hon Ohemeng Mor has stated that encroachment
of Owabi Forest Reserve land has been a major
cause to flooding at Atafoa and its environs in
the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

The rains which lasted for about four hours left a
lot of people stranded at their homes as floods
took over streets and some properties.

Residents of Atafoa could not go to work on Friday
after an early morning heavy downpour which
flooded most parts of the Ashanti Regional
capital.

The Assembly Man for Abrepo-Mpatasie Electoral
Area Hon Ohemeng Mor speaking on ABUSUA DAWURO
COMMUNITY WATCH accused the Chief of Atafoa, Nana
Atafoa for selling Owabi Forest Lands to people to
build houses and other projects.

According to him, due to encroachment at the Owabi
Forest Reserve lands, people are mostly displaced
anytime it rains saying the floor of the Owabi
River has been blocked by those building houses
and projects near Owabi Forest.

However, the Chief of Atafo, Nana Atafoa speaking
to Osei Kwadwo denied the Assembly man’s
accusation saying he does not have the power to
sell Owabi Forest Reserve lands.

Nana Atafoa therefore announced immediate plans to
desilt the Owabi River to save the city from
further flooding.

Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo who is following the
development reported that the Owabi Forest
Reserve has turned into a dumping site by the
residents in the community.
