NPP meets over attacks on REGSEC coordinator
Executives of the Ashanti regional branch of the
governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) are holding a
crunch meeting over attacks on the new coordinator
of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council
(RCC), allegedly orchestrated by the party’s
internal security arm, the Delta Force.

On Friday March 24, a group of well-built men from
the Delta Force stormed the RCC to allegedly stop
one George Agyei, who has been appointed as the
Regional Security Coordinator, from performing his
duties.

According to members of the security arm, they
cannot work with Mr Agyei since he is not native
to the region.

The members said they have petitioned the Ashanti
Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, on the
matter and he has promised to deal with it. The
taskforce, however, stormed the office to stop Mr
Agyei from working on Friday.

According to Class News’ regional correspondent,
Hafiz Tijani, Mr Agyei was allegedly manhandled
and dragged from his office, but was saved by
police officers who were called in to maintain
calm.

Speaking on these developments in an interview
with Class91.3FM’s Valentina Ofori-Afriyie on
the 505 programme on Friday, the Ashanti Regional
Secretary of the NPP, Sam Pyne, said the
development was one of the items to be discussed
at a crunch meeting to find out the way forward.

He said: “I just got back from Accra to Kumasi
and received this information. This is one of the
items that we will be discussing.

“As I speak now we are in a regional executive
meeting and hopefully the regional minister will
join us. Definitely we are going to discuss the
incident and look at the way forward.”
