Most Rev.Prof. Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of National Peace Council

Use your own wisdom to reject Montie 3 petition - Peace Council
The Chairman of National Peace Council Most
Rev.Prof. Emmanuel Asante is calling on the
President John Dramani Mahama not to wade into
Montie three controversy.

Some bigwigs in the ruling National Democratic
Congress (NDC) have signed a petition book
soliciting for signatories later to be presented
to the president to grant the trio presidential
pardon.

This he believes tends to 'embarrass’ the
president, and that their actions could create
problems for the nation.

‘We hear people saying all sort of things, and
people are even urging the executive, embarrassing
the president of the nation to wade into a
situation that can create problems for all of us.
I pray the president will use his own wisdom and
for the sake of mother Ghana, not wade into this
kind of situation,’ he said.

He wondered why the petitioners refused to review
the case before asking the president to grant them
amnesty.

‘Did the Supreme Court do what they the law
permit, did they do out of what the law demands,
were they doing legally what they were permitted
to do, and if we are not happy, have we exhausted
what the law says we can do, to review the case,
have they gone for review,’ he asked.

Speaking on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by
Lantam Papanko, he advised Ghanaians to desist
from inciting people when a ruling do not go in
their favour.

‘In a situation where we are saying all sort of
things about our judges, insulting them because
judgement goes in a way that we do not like, I sit
back and say are we going to jungle politics, are
we allowing rule of law to prevail, separation of
powers must be respected,’ he asked.

The three contemnors Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako
Gunn members of NDC and Salifu Maase alias Mugabe
(Presenter) were on last week Wednesday jailed
four months each by the Supreme Court.

The trio were found guilty of scandalizing the
court, defying and lowering the authority of the
Supreme Court and bringing it into disrepute.
