Kofi Jumah fined GH¢1,200
A former member of parliament of the New Patriotic
Party for Asokwa constituency in Ashanti Region,
Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been sentenced to a fine
of GH¢1, 200 by a Kumasi Circuit court for
destroying electoral materials.

He would go to jail for six months if he failed to
pay the fine.



He was found guilty of causing unlawful damage to
electoral materials and was accordingly convicted
by the court.

His campaign manager, Oscar Riches, was also fined
GH¢950 for resisting arrest. He would go to jail
for three months in default.

The court presided by Mrs. Afia Adu-Amankwa, heard
that Mr. Jumah had a long rift with the incumbent
Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency,
Patricia Appiagyei.

The Prosecutor, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel
Akonnor, told the court that during a
parliamentary primary held on June 13, 2015, Mr.
Jumah who was said to have suspected some foul
deals disrupted the process.

He said the convict accused the Electoral
Commission (EC) and some party executives of
tampering with the voters’ register in favour of
the incumbent.

The Prosecution said the convict then took the
album from the officials of the EC, tore it and
threw the pieces on the floor.

According to the Prosecutor, following his action,
the police quickly arrested him, handcuffed him
and together with his accomplice remanded him in
police custody at Asokwa and were subsequently
charged.
