‘It is my last attempt’
The flagbearer of the Progressive People’s
Party, (PPP) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has indicated
that, the 2016 general election will be his last
attempt at the presidency.

Dr. Nduom said he has done all he can over the
course of his presidential bids and November will
be his last attempt.

In an interview yesterday, the PPP flagbearer
stated that, “This is the last opportunity for
Ghanaians to recognise the person who can do the
job. If this one passes by, I have done what I
can. The rest is up to Ghanaians.”

Dr. Nduom also revealed that, his party is well
aware of his plans, and explained that, the
mindset behind his decision was to give the youth
in his party an opportunity to lead.

“I have told our party that this is the election
that I want to preside over and from then on,
leave leadership positions to our younger people
so this is my last round.”

Dr. Nduom’s first presidential bid was in 2008
on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party
(CPP). He subsequently departed the CPP and
founded the PPP where he contested the 2012
election as its flagbearer.

Ahead of the 2016 polls, Dr. Nduom has been
touting his track record as a successful
entrepreneur as he views the election to be about
job creation.

He has consistently cited his private business
ventures as evidence of his ability to solve the
country’s unemployment problem.

Dr. Nduom has also intimated that, fixing the
country’s economy is beyond President John
Mahama and the presidential candidate of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo.

Creating a more inclusive government is also one
of the main goals of the PPP, with Dr. Nduom
vowing to eradicate the politics of ‘winner
takes all’ from the Ghanaian governance system
should it win power in the upcoming general
elections.

Speaking at the PPP’s national convention, where
he was affirmed as the party’s flag bearer, Dr.
Nduom, assured Ghanaians that his party would
“change the narrow ‘winner takes all’
parochial, ideology fixations to governance in
Ghana forever.”

“We are committed to running an inclusive
government using the best men and women no matter
where they come from, no matter what their
religion is, no matter their party affiliation. We
want the best for Ghana and only the best and
selfless will serve in our administration.”
