We don’t intend killing people under Operation Father Christmas – Police
The Ghana Police Service says it has no intention
of employing brute force to bully and kill
residents under its moves to ensure an event-free
Christmas.

Code named Operation Father Christmas, the
security operation had a fatal take off last week
after the Central Regional Police command raided
some criminal hideouts in Cape Coast.

Some angry youth attacked the Cape Coast police
station destroying dozens of vehicles and other
properties as a result of the death of one
resident. In all two deaths were recorded in the
area.

“Under the Operation Father Christmas it is
not our intention to go and brutalise someone and
kill him knowing he is a responsible
person,” Regional Police Commander DCOP
Ransford Moses Ninson explained on Joy FM’s
Newsnight.

The Ag. Inspector General of Police John Kudalor
met families of the deceased today to calm tempers
and court their cooperation in the police
investigations.

The IGP met the bereaved families at the regional
police headquarters because the crime scene was
still in a “tense situation” DCOP
Moses Ninson explained.

Though the families appear supportive, they
insisted that the police brutality led to the
death of the two.

But DCOP Moses Ninson said only the autopsy
report, which would be ready tomorrow, would
determine the cause of death.

“The person was sick and died an hour later
in hospital” he noted, based on information
he said was relayed to him by his officers.

If [the autopsy proves] he died of a natural cause
then the police cannot be blamed,” he
remarked, promising that if it turns out it was
unnatural cause then the investigations will
continue unhindered.

He said the police administration will not shield
any officer found culpable in the death of the
residents would be dealt with.

Meanwhile, the Police Intelligence and
Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS) would be at
the scene tomorrow to continue investigations into
the matter.

A lot of discussions were held and the families
assured the IGP of their cooperation even after
the funeral of the two, Supt Cephas Arthur
Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Police
Service confirmed to Joy News.

The IGP also assured the families and the Omanhene
of the Ogua Traditional Area of a
“painstaking investigation” into the
matter, he said.
